The American Arbitration Association (“AAA”) announced the launch of its AI Ambassador programme on 18 September 2026. The initiative brings together selected AAA arbitrators and mediators to examine legal and procedural questions arising from the use of AI in arbitration, mediation and the transactions that may give rise to disputes.
The ambassadors will work across four areas: AI evidence and arbitration procedure; emerging AI disputes; AI-driven commerce and automated transactions; and digital assets and algorithmic finance. Among the issues they will consider are the authenticity of AI-related evidence, AI hallucinations, automated commercial transactions and algorithmic finance.
The working groups intend to develop articles, white papers, webinars and other educational materials for ADR users, counsel, arbitrators, mediators and other dispute resolution professionals. According to the AAA, the programme draws on neutrals’ practical experience and forms part of its wider work examining the effects of emerging technologies on disputes and dispute resolution processes. It is also intended to support the responsible use of AI in arbitration and mediation.
