Belgravia Law is pleased to announce our Partner, Benjamin Wells, will be speaking at a high-level panel event during London International Disputes Week 2026, examining the rapidly evolving disputes landscape surrounding Kazakhstan and Central Asia. As Kazakhstan continues to assert itself as a significant hub for international commerce and investment, the mechanisms available for resolving disputes connected to the region are developing at pace.
The panel will bring together leading international and regional practitioners to discuss the latest developments in litigation, arbitration and enforcement affecting parties doing business in or with Kazakhstan, with particular focus on the AIFC Court and its growing role in the regional disputes ecosystem. Benjamin will speak on recent investment arbitration awards involving Kazakhstan, analysing emerging trends and their implications for international practitioners and investors alike.
The evening is structured across two sessions, each addressing distinct but complementary aspects of the Kazakhstan disputes landscape. Session 1, moderated by Nadia Hubbuck, Counsel at BCLP, will open with a keynote address from Lord Burnett of Maldon, former Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales and current Chief Justice of the AIFC Court. Bakhyt Tukulov, Partner at TKS Disputes, will address litigation and enforcement trends at the AIFC Court and in the Kazakhstani state courts, before Benjamin Wells offers his analysis of recent investment arbitration awards and their broader implications for the region.
Session 2, moderated by Rashid Gaissin, Partner at Eldwick Law, will feature contributions from Christopher Campbell-Holt OBE, Registrar and Chief Executive of the AIFC Court and IAC, on case progression at the Court; Galina Borshevskaya, Senior Associate at Osborne Clarke, on the practicalities of proving a case before the AIFC Court; Tatiana Menshinina, Partner at Fladgate LLP, on the termination of arbitral proceedings arising from sanctions issues, drawing on lessons from a recent Singapore court judgment; and Benjamin Gray, barrister at Littleton Chambers, offering commentary on the AIFC Court Rules and the practical advantages the Court provides to parties.
