CIArb is delighted to welcome Cesar Pereira C.Arb FCIArb as its President for 2026. He takes over the role from Professor Dr. Mohamed Abdel Wahab C.Arb FCIArb. The formal transition of leadership took place during a Presidential Handover Ceremony in December and President Pereira officially began his term on 1 January 2026.
Each incoming CIArb President selects a theme to shape the focus and direction of their presidency, setting out priorities for members, partners and the wider professional community. For 2026, Cesar Pereira has chosen the theme “Trust in a Changing World.” This theme reflects the dynamic and evolving nature of international dispute resolution and emphasises the profession’s ongoing responsibilities in this context.
Explaining the significance of his chosen theme, President Pereira commented that trust in international dispute resolution depends fundamentally on strong ethics and professional conduct, as well as on efficiency and a consistent commitment to serving the interests of end users. He noted that rapid technological advances and shifting global relations are combining to create an increasingly complex operating environment.
He further emphasised that, as a global organisation with more than a century of history, CIArb is uniquely placed to support and strengthen confidence in dispute resolution processes. According to Pereira, the Institute has both the capacity and the responsibility to evolve, adapt and respond effectively to the challenges presented by a world that is changing at an accelerating pace.
Cesar Pereira has played an active role within CIArb for many years. He was involved in the establishment of the CIArb Brazil Branch in 2019 and later served as its first Chair in 2022. During his presidency, he will be supported by Michael Tonkin C.Arb FCIArb, who will serve as Deputy President for 2026.
