The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (“<span class="news-text_medium">CIArb</span>”) has issued a <a href="https://www.ciarb.org/news-listing/call-for-feedback-ciarb-s-guideline-on-the-use-of-ai-in-arbitration/" target="_blank" class="news-text_link">call for feedback</a> on its Guideline on the Use of AI in Arbitration (2025) (the “<span class="news-text_medium">Guideline</span>”), as part of its ongoing efforts to ensure that its framework for navigating AI in arbitral proceedings remains current and fit for purpose.
The Guideline was first published in March 2025, with the aim of assisting arbitration participants in harnessing the benefits of AI whilst mitigating the associated risks to the integrity of arbitral proceedings. Its scope is broad, covering the advantages and risks of AI use, general best practice recommendations and the respective responsibilities of parties and arbitrators when deploying AI tools. The Guideline also includes a template agreement on party use of AI and two template procedural orders for practical use.
CIArb has indicated that it wishes to update the Guideline in step with AI's growing and rapidly evolving role in dispute resolution and its practical applications in arbitration practice. The objective is to ensure that the framework continues to reflect the profession's real-world experience and remains responsive to emerging developments in the field.
CIArb is seeking input from its own members, non-member practitioners, the wider alternative dispute resolution community and other industry stakeholders with relevant experience or interest. Feedback must be submitted by 26 May 2026 via the online form available on CIArb's website.
